Every time I go into Wal Mart I cruise the kiddy craft isle. Each time I would see these colorful foam shapes and think what "adult" thing could I make with them? The other day the lightbulb went off and I decided to make wallets!
They're VERY easy and take only minutes to complete.
Wal Mart sells a stack of foam sheets in assorted colors for under $6. There are also foam shapes and the ones I picked were the flowers for about $2. There are a bunch of different colored flowers and circles, so you can decide which color works for you. For under $10 you can make close to 25 wallets or so. I'm also planning on using this same design for business card holders, small gift bags/holders, a bigger handbag, and may even attach the flowers to hair ties. The possiblities are now endless! What cheap Christmas gifts!
I decided to sew the flowers on to the wallet. The material is very easy to sew and what's really cool about it is the foam kind of "puffs" up once it's sewn giving it a nice edge.
I used a zig zag stich and bright green thread. I found some bright green rick rack and then attached a snap. I don't claim to be the best seamstress, but I think it turned out rather cool!
The snap will tear the fabric if you haven't stitched some sort of trim around the wallet to reinforce it.
